twin cities
Norwich is twinned with four towns and cities: Rouen in France, Koblenz in Germany, Novi Sad in Serbia and El Viejo in Nicaragua.
The aim of twinning cities ‘was seen as a way of spreading understanding of different cultures.’ It also ‘encourages communities to look beyond their boundaries and reach out to other countries and different cultures; to discover opportunities for working together and to build friendship and understanding in the world.’ A notion which I felt was particularly relevant with the uncertainly surrounding Brexit.
I travelled to each European city to create a visual map of the location, to explore the visual echo’s each place had with Norwich and each other, while also trying to discover what gives them their sense of place.
